Support request with team editing experiment project[edit]

Dear tech ambassadors, instead of spamming the Village Pump of each Wikipedia about my tiny project proposal for researching team editing (see here:, I have decided to leave to your own discretion if the matter is relevant enough to inform a wider audience already. I would appreciate if you could appraise if the Wikipedia community you are more familiar with could have interest in testing group editing "on their own grounds" and with their own guidance. In a nutshell: it consists in editing pages as a group instead of as an individual. This social experiment might involve redefining some aspects of the workflow we are all used to, with the hope of creating a more friendly and collaborative environment since editing under a group umbrella creates less social exposure than traditional "individual editing". I send you this message also as a proof that the Inspire Campaign is already gearing up. As said I would appreciate of *you* just a comment on the talk page/endorsement of my project noting your general perception about the idea. Nothing else. Your contribution helps to shape the future! (which I hope it will be very bright, with colors, and Wikipedia everywhere) Regards from User:Micru on meta.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Scale of justice 2.svg

Hello, The Anome. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.

NHRP detaggables[edit]

So, I ended up here: User:The Anome/NHRP detaggables because of this redirect, Skeleton Cave Massacre Site. I recently created Skeleton Cave (Arizona), and when I was linking other pages to the article, I found the detaggables page. In scanning your list, I came across Work, John, House and Mill Site which I then linked to John Work House and Mill Site which has existed since 2006.

It occurred to me that there may be a number of pages already in existence, but since they are not formatted the same as what's on this page, they aren't being identified as being done. I'm trying to think on how to solve this problem. --evrik (talk)

Am caught up in an Anonymous Block[edit]

Hello the Anome, I think my IP is caught up in an anonymous block. While am able to edit on normal wiki interface I can't use any tools such as SW viewer or JWB that I often use daily. What can I do to fix this?--Megan B.... It’s all coming to me till the end of time 11:20, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

I've added you to the IP Block Exempt group. Please let me know if this helps. -- The Anome (talk) 11:29, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Austrian anti-vaccination activists[edit]

A tag has been placed on Category:Austrian anti-vaccination activists indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Hana Horka[edit]

I redirected her bio to Asonance as I couldn't find any coverage of her other than about her death from COVID-19. Per BLP1E, we shouldn't have a separate article on her as her death was in itself not a major event. You can add more info to the band's article. Fences&Windows 23:32, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

@Fences and windows: I've reverted your edit; please see Wikipedia:What BLP1E is not. She is known for two things: her membership of a well-known Czech musical group, and dying for her anti-vax beliefs, something which has achieved global notoriety and world-wide media coverage. I'm really tired of BLP1E being used as a blanket policy to delete articles on anti-vax deaths. Please take it to AFD if you want to delete it. -- The Anome (talk) 07:23, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Sure thing: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hana Horka. I don't know of other cases of anti-vax deaths having articles, I just saw this one and thought it was inappropriate. An analogous list was deleted: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of gender reveal party accidents. Fences&Windows 13:29, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

Malfunctioning bot[edit]

Anomebot2 seems to be malfunctioning; it's adding coordinates with both negative longitudes and "W" longitudes, causing a spurt of entries in Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags. I don't want to shut dowm the bot without giving you a chance to fix this. Deor (talk) 19:28, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

@Deor: Oh no! Thanks for the heads-up: this is a silly programming error on my part. I have stopped that bot run, and will set the bot to fix all those errors tomorrow morning, so there should be no need to fix them by hand. Fortunately, it looks like only 157 have slipped through so far. -- The Anome (talk) 19:43, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
OK. You'll have to unblock the bot, which I blocked, since it was continuing with similar edits. (It's also adding overprecise coordinates, apparently getting them from Wikidata, and not adding region codes or location types. I consider that less than optimal) Deor (talk) 19:47, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
I will unblock the bot, and also roll back the contentious edits, hopefully by tomorrow morning, and I will not add them again until I've got consensus. -- The Anome (talk) 20:02, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
@Deor:I've removed the tags, thus clearing out Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags; this is not a perfect fix because doing this will have messed with stub notice formatting in some cases, but I will go back and fix that in a separate pass later once I've fixed the tag-remover code. Once that's done, everything should have been restored to its pristine state. -- The Anome (talk) 13:17, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
